In a time in history where ‘word-of-mouth’ was the only social media Jesus’ reputation for miracles and preaching was growing fast. He was making an impression! It must have been exciting for the disciples to have been part of the inner bubble. Many people had an opinion about Jesus and it seems the disciples had been part of the gossip. They were able to report to Jesus what people were saying – they were comparing him to Old Testament luminaries – Elijah and Jerimiah or, even more recently, John the Baptist. Jesus uses this opportunity to have a conversation with his disciples that will change the course of world history.
