Intercessory Prayer by Joan Andrews

Lord of light and King of Glory we lift up those in our neighbourhood, in our country and in our church. Begin with those who follow you, and help them influence others for good. Let them be salt and light, pointing others to you. Deepen their love for you and for the people around them. Raise up leaders who will serve you faithfully at all costs.  You have given us a great country, founded on principles and truths from Your Word. We need men and women who will honor You, trust You, and lead us once again back to You. We pray for servant leaders who love the things You love and who care more about others than themselves.
Give us leaders with discerning hearts, bold faith, and wise minds that model Your character. Teach them—and us—not just what is good, but what is best. Guide them in the way our country should go. Give them purity in their intentions, and godliness in their convictions. Help our leaders to be quick to admit failure, but ready to rebound in persistent resilience. Encourage them to choose wisely. Let them take a firm stand on issues that truly matter to You, regardless of the consequences or approval ratings. Make them God-pleasers, not puppets; leaders filled with conviction, not corruption.
As a nation, God, help us to desire righteousness more than rights, and to mirror sacrifice more than selfishness. You know us well, and You understand our flaws. Turn those weaknesses into strengths; bathe us with Your grace and mercy, though none of us deserve it. Fill us with the boldness to choose the kind of freedom that will benefit all, rather than a few. Open our eyes to see others as You do—with godly potential and value.
May our love for you help us to love and forgive others and make a difference in our world.
We pray for our church family who are travelling at this time or those currently involved in outreach missions, we pray that you will watch over them and bring them safely back home.  We pray for those who are sick and we ask that you would send your comfort, your peace, your calming presence and healing. We thank you for answered prayers for Rob Nance and his continual improvement.
We pray for those around the world affected by both natural disasters, hatred and violence. We think of the victims of the shootings in the US. We also think of our farmers struggles. Make them brave, and give them your powerful protection.
We pray for teachers, the Police and the Emergency Services that in spite of bureaucracy and lack of resources, they would be strong in leadership, just, honest and consistent in all they do to serve their communities. We pray for all those in authority and leadership, both locally and throughout the world. Give them your mind, and will to exercise integrity and work for justice, morality, peace and freedom. We pray that you will be there when decisions are being made and that your voice will be heard above the egos and self interest.
At a time when many question the relevance of the Church, give us the presence to be witnesses in the world. Witnesses that strengthen the presence of Christ in our communities.
We also pray for those in authority in our sporting organisations, that they will see commonsense and not punish or restrict those who express their religious beliefs outside of the workplace.
We thank you for all those who spend their lives helping others to find you, our only hope in this world.
Inspire your church here on earth to proclaim the gospel of your love in the death and resurrection of your Son.
So many needs Lord, but you are adequate for every need. Your name is powerful, and your power is great. May all people hear the call to trust you.
Amen
